“The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.” ― William Gibson, Neuromancer

WHAT IS BRUTALIST?

BRUTALIST is where cyberpunk meets decay. Amid the towering concrete structures and the sprawling ruins of yesterday's promise, the echoing drone of worn-out tech fills the air. Massive scavenger-ships bring in hulks to the harbor where the scrappers await. When night falls, your job begins.

BRUTALIST is inspired by Cassette Futurism, Brutalist Architecture, Neuromancer and Dishonored. The “High” has been taken out of “High tech, low life”. This is a world where a CPU can barely surpass 100 MHz.

BRUTALIST offers:

  • Easy d6-based rules.
  • Thematic and quick character creation.
  • An extensive gear list.
  • Procedures for combat, exploration and downtime.
  • Tables for generating scenarios quickly.

BRUTALIST owes its inception to the innovative rpg framework of Jason Tocci's 24XX and the inventive Hazard System by Necropraxis. This game strives to follow the Brutalist Adventure Game Design manifesto.

THIS GAME NEEDS ART

BRUTALIST currently uses images generated with Midjourney. I want to replace it with REAL ART by PEOPLE. Get in touch with me for a potential commission.

How virtuous of you to dunk on an independent ttrpg developer. We are all very impressed that you went out of your way to type this.

Seriously, though. Lighten up. If Sigve were charging for this, I would agree with you. This is free and they are explicitly mentioning that they intend to replace the placeholders with paid human art.

I'm already in touch with two different artists and discussing commissions 😊

why would you post this? like the developer literally is asking for and promoting commission work and you just post this low effort garbage... why do we not love each other

Are skills supposed to add dice to risk rolls?

Came here to ask a similar question. I can’t tell why there are 4 different levels of skills mechanically.

Hey, thanks for the comment. I answered OP above. Does that clarify the issue for you?

Thanks for the question! If having a skill helps for a given risk, then sure. Right now they dont do much mechanically, but what i have been thinking is to have certain obstacles be automatically neutralized by certain skill ranks. For example, hacking a basic PC would be no issue to someone with Hacking (ex).

Just a quick note about the manifesto site. Under the heading Functionality First, you are talking about "presentation", but in the next sentence you have a double space in "They  should".

It's a pet peeve of mine when someone discusses something not to do, then actually does that themselves, especially when it comes to writing.

Cheers,

I'll fix it immediately!

Sorry if that came off pissy, was not my intent. Great work btw.

Cheers,

Thanks, I very much appreciate feedback that helps me improve my work. 😊
